Different crystal forms of the same drug may be significantly different in appearance, solubility, melting point, etc.

Currently, there are many methods to study drug polymorphism.  The X-ray diffraction method has more advantages in the study of the structure of solid substances, especially crystalline substances. XRD can effectively analyze the crystal stability, composition and structure of drugs under high temperature, low temperature.

XRD encompasses single crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction. Single crystal X-ray diffraction is employed for determining crystal configuration, molecular arrangement, and drug molecule conformation, whereas powder diffraction can provide qualitative or quantitative analysis results through the powder diffraction pattern.
